2y achievements
The SPATIAL project has achieved significant milestones across its objectives in trustworthy and explainable AI.
Objective 1: AI Transparency and Explainability
Embarking on a journey of systematic verification, SPATIAL unveiled essential requirements and methods for AI transparency and explainability. The project delivered “D2.3,” outlining a process to integrate accountability and resilience features into AI algorithms. Initial testing on four diverse use cases showcased promising results.
Objective 2: Trustworthy AI in Distributed Environments
SPATIAL delved into data trade-offs for trustworthy AI in distributed settings. The conceptualisation of the platform structure, including the API gateway, progressed to the demo stage, marking strides in building a robust AI infrastructure.
Objective 3: Socio-technical Analysis and User Studies
With a socio-technical analysis framework, SPATIAL initiated field analysis for ethnographic insights into AI tool development. Concurrently, user studies involving medical experts and patients were conducted, laying the foundation for practical guidelines in the project’s early phases.
Objective 4: Educational Module Launch
By launching the Educational Module, SPATIAL served to a diverse audience—from AI non-experts to professionals. The module, comprising basic and technical courses, offers 2 ECTS credits and is adaptable to university curricula. This is one of the main SPATIAL achievements and it’s now running. Please check the whole article about the educational module here.
Objective 5: Dissemination and Communication
In the spirit of knowledge sharing, SPATIAL strengthened its presence through scientific publications, event participation, and a successful workshop in Dublin (SECURENET 2023). Two captivating podcast episodes explored the impact of AI on society’s wellbeing and the evolving challenges of gender equality in AI.
As we reflect on these achievements, the SPATIAL project remains committed to shaping the future of AI, one innovation at a time. Here’s to continued growth and collaboration in the dynamic landscape of AI research!
